Virtualizing SAN storage at the disk-block level rather than at the RAID-volume-partition level enables A snapshot mechanism based entirely on metadata pointers that provides a fast way—with minimal I/O processing overhead—to clone disk volumes, and a radical thin-replication approach improves disaster recovery.
